A spherical container with a thin metallic wall of thickness t, and thermal

 

conductivity k, stores Liquid Nitrogen Gas (LNG) at 77 K having a very high

 

heat transfer coefficient (because of the phase change). This metal LNG

 

container has an outside diameter of 1.0 m (which is the inside diameter of

 

the insulation material, di=1.0 m) and is covered with a 2 cm insulation

 

system composed of glass wool with thermal conductivity, kins = 0.04 W/ m.K.

 

The outer surface is exposed to ambient air at To = 300 K. Calculate the heat

 

transferred from the outer air into the liquid for the following two situations:

 

a. Calm ambient air.

 

b. Windy ambient air with a wind velocity of V= 20 miles per hour.
