reserved for his bookkeeping activities. Dalvin has records of the following expenses:
Internet service that is used 40% for business is $85 per month.
During the year, Dalvin became a certified QuickBooks Pro at a cost of $650. He also took a course in
Intermediate Excel to improve his skills; the cost of the course was $229. He also paid to get his real
estate license and that cost $1,800.
Davlin took the owner of Ajax to lunch on 5 occasions and has receipts to show the details of the lunch
meeting as he attempts to build more business projects. The lunches were (1) Madison Social $38.12;
(2) Tan?s Asian Caf? $25.18; (3) Blaze Pizza $18.29; (4) Sage $49.72; (5) Sonny?s $22.83.
He paid for a cell phone line dedicated to the bookkeeping services for which he pays $70 per month.
Dalvin paid $210 to maintain/repair office equipment used for the business (the equipment was fully
depreciated under Section 179 the previous year). Dalvin also purchased $828 worth of offices supplies
from Staples; he kept all receipts.
There was a sale at Best Buy and early in the year Dalvin purchased a computer system used 100% for
business; total cost for the system including set up was $4,500, and the system should last for at least 3
Dalvin goes to yoga to relieve the stress of working so hard for his family; he pays $35 per month for
Journey?s in Yoga. Dalvin also joined the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, paying dues of $415 for
Dalvin pays his neighbor $75 a month to help with filing and other work-related chores. He does not
provide a 1099-MISC or a W-2 to his friend.
Dalvin did keep track of the following mileage: 13,833 miles for personal use; 2,892 miles for various
trips related to his work at Ajax (none of which were for commuting); 532 miles for volunteer work; and
1,893 for trips to take Tavaris to Shand?s Clinic for various treatments (these were all day trips).
Dalvin made the following estimated tax payments: 4/14/15 $5,000; 6/15/15 $5,000; 9/14/15 $6,000;
