Experiment #9 Laboratory Practical (Acid-Base Titration) This experiment is designed to assess a student?s ability to use techniques and apply concepts learned in the laboratory this semester. For the laboratory practical, each student will determine the concentration of an acid solution by method of titration. The general reaction for this acid- base titration is: HA(aq) + NaOH(aq) ?> NaA(aq) + H20(l) The experiment will be completed individually and is due by the end of the practical session. There is a 2 hour time limit for the lab practical. Students will be graded on the accuracy of their results; the proper use of glassware, significant figures and units; and the calculations performed to determine the concentration of the acid solution. There will be no talking or use of notes during the laboratory practical. The only non-laboratory items allowed are a writing utensil and non-graphing scientific calculator. The procedure and data/summary page will be provided for you. How to Prepare for a Lab Practical 1. Read the Procedure so that you are familiar with the experiment. 2. Review all skills used for the practical in the Lab Skills document. 3. Review calculations associated with the experiment. For this experiment review acid- base titrations (use your text and previous experiments).
