Performance and effectiveness of our group in identifying and solving the

 

problems of pedestrian safety on campus

 

Our group clearly discussed the problem of pedestrian etiquette from three aspects which are

 

pedestrians, drivers, and bikers, and we effectively came up with the most effective and practical

 

solution to the problem.

 

As one of the research coordinators, I focused on the problem of pedestrians and drivers. I made

 

an active effort to collect and organize the information that related to my topic, such as statistics

 

of accidents on campus, students? attitudes toward pedestrian manners, and relevant regulations

 

of campus traffic. Due to the time conflict, my group could not meet frequently. Fortunately,

 

everyone was willing to accept my suggestion of the virtual team meetings by sharing

 

information on the google document. We went to the CommLab as a whole group as well to

 

foster the climate of a constructive team after the Thanksgiving break and reduced stress before

 

the final discussion. I also learned the strategy of an effective group communication by providing

 

specific examples and elaborating my statements. As a researcher and a resident, I attempted to

 

think about the problems from both pedestrian and commuter sides in order to make a fair and

 

objective assessment and less biased statements and results.

 

As a group, we collaborated well during the practice and final discussion. My favorite part of the

 

discussion is the solution that we camp up with. It was attainable, practical, and economical. I

 

appreciated with each member?s participation and how we tried to help each other out during the

 

discussion. However, we still lacked communications before the final discussion since there were

 

a few short pauses during our presentation. Although the virtual group meetings were helpful

 

about sharing information, the face-to-face meetings would help us more to prepare better since

 

it would create a discussion atmosphere and let us to know more about each other. What?s more,

 

we should have created an online survey and gathered more student?s responses so we would

 

have more to talk about and enhance credibility.

 

Overall, I would keep the virtual team meetings and the CommLab since they played significant

 

roles in preparation if we were to have a similar task. However, I would also encourage the other

 

members to have more physical meetings and create an online questionnaire to make the

 

discussion become more completed. More importantly, each individual?s enthusiasm and

 

responsibility will boost the effectiveness and quality of the discussion.
